En Europe, le praticien MédiThérapeute n’a aucun titre pour poser un diagnostic (sauf bien sûr s’il est lui-même médecin), car il s’agirait alors d’un exercice illégal de la médecine.

Le recours aux soins d’un médiateur praticien de la MédiThérapie ne peut donc s’effectuer qu’en l’absence d’affection caractérisée qui relèverait de la compétence d’un médecin (ou sous le contrôle d’un médecin). La MédiThérapie n’a pas vocation à se substituer à la médecine moderne. Elle ne peut donc en aucune manière apparaître comme une médecine alternative.

Il s’agit au contraire d’une thérapie complémentaire (au même titre que par exemple : la psychothérapie, la psychanalyse, la phytothérapie, l’homéopathie, l’acupuncture ou l’ostéopathie), dont la place au côté de la médecine moderne n’est pas contestable.

L’un des dangers liés à l’exercice de ces thérapies complémentaires, est la possible absence de garantie du patient sur la qualification du praticien ou sa probité.

L’aveuglement ou l’ignorance de professionnels insuffisamment formés, confrontés à une affection grave (tumeur, désordre mental majeur) ou à caractère évolutif, peut conduire à mettre en péril la vie du patient par un protocole de soins inadapté.

Le praticien pourrait alors se rendre par exemple responsable d’abus de confiance et de non-assistance à personne en danger voire d’exercice illégal de la médecine.
